DPR: Fair Energy Is a Form of Nationalism

JAKARTA – Member of the House of Representatives Commission VII (DPR), Maman Abdurrahman, revealed that Justice Energy echoed by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is part of nationalism.

“I want to convey that nationalism is everything that can provide the greatest benefit and contribution to the interests of the nation and the state,” Maman said as a speaker at the discussion “Reviewing Jokowi’s Government’s Energy Policy” held in Jakarta, Wednesday (29/8) afternoon.

According to Maman, what the Government has done to provide access to energy as widely as possible for the community, especially in the 3T region (leading, outermost and left behind) is actually nationalism itself. “If we agree with the nationalism that I convey, then we can resolve and see a much larger context related to the progress of our nation in the energy sector,” he continued.

He explained, at this time many groups were trapped in narrow nationalism fanaticism, which he analogized as biological children (domestic investors) and stepchildren (foreign investors). “If we do not take sides with our biological children, we are not nationalists, but if we stand for stepchildren, we are pro on foreign and capitalist interests. I must say this is the most fundamental problem in our energy sector,” said Maman.

So, he said, when we take sides or contribute to the interests of biological children and stepchildren, and that can contribute as much as possible to the nation and the state, that is what is called nationalism.

In addition to Maman, the discussion also featured speakers from the ESDM Ministry’s Planning Bureau Head Harya Adityawarman, Pertamina Corporate Communication Vice President, Adiatma Sardjito, and Energy Watch Executive Director, Mamit Setiawan, who involved participants from journalists, NGOs, as well as students.

On the same occasion, Mamit also gave his appreciation for the pro-people programs launched by the Government. “Pro-people programs must continue to be rolled out. One-price BBM, Premium distribution targeting small communities, distributing LTSHE for remote communities, and similar programs must be kept and monitored so that they are targeted and provide access to energy for our brothers and sisters throughout Indonesia, “said Maman.
